As you consider if this online course is for you, ask yourself the following questions:
· Would I like more time to investigate the Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) in depth?
· Would it be helpful to see grade 9-12 writing samples, suggested readings, and performance tasks to gain a better understanding of the NYS expectations?
· Would I be interested in hearing from other high school teachers and learning from their expertise? How are other teachers approaching these standards?
The CCLS were built on the “…shoulders of the NYS standards.” Let’s take this opportunity to see what is similar, what is new, and how the rigor for our students has been raised.
This course is designed to provide secondary teachers with an opportunity to consider the shifts in classroom instruction. Questions, suggestions, concerns, and connections are welcome! Your online course facilitator will be your guide as you consider the impact of the CCLS in your district.
At the end of the course, you will share a new or improved lesson plan, infused with the CCLS or develop an action plan which includes your thoughts and ideas how to address new grade level requirements.
This course is designed as a seven hour workshop, the equivalent of one full day
session.
